In addition to our popular Summer Sessions, PHI has established several year-round programs designed to educate young harpists and provide opportunities for mentoring, masterclasses, and community outreach. For more detailed information on any of these programs, please use the links to the right.

Artist Residency

Formally established in 2008, PHI’s Artist Residency Program brings acclaimed harpists from around the country to Seattle for performances and masterclasses. In March 2008, Pacific Harp Institute was thrilled to welcome Yolanda Kondonassis as its first official Artist-in-Residence. Artists PHI has hosted in past years include Judy Loman and the Lipman Harp Duo.

Canto Mio

Canto Mio, which is Italian for “My Song,” is our select harp ensemble. These young students were selected by audition and have made a commitment to excellence whenever and wherever they are invited to perform. The students in this group range in age from eleven to fourteen. They are available to perform for community outreach by request.

Harp Club

Harp Club welcomes children under age 12 who have had little exposure to playing an instrument, but would like to start. The monthly meetings will allow club members to learn about the harp through various activities and lessons. Students will be encouraged to explore the harp in a group setting. The instructor will teach about the harp in fun and educational ways that will cover various aspects of the instrument including history, styles of play, composers and compositions, etc. Activities will be geared towards enhancing harp appreciation. These include arts and crafts, creative music appreciation exercises, and concert field trips. Membership is free!
